Modern History and Politics: University of Southampton

Course overview

This is the most popular of the combined history degrees, and includes core skills courses and a range of options in politics, alongside complementary history courses exploring state structures and political ideologies in British, European, American and Asian contexts.

There are two compulsory and two optional units from each subject in year one, with the option of 25 per cent in a third subject.

• Combines two subjects which have natural affinities
• Training in statistics and numeracy
• Opportunities to study both arts and social sciences approaches
• Particular strengths in US, twentieth-century European, modern British, and Jewish history

Entry requirements

• A levels: AAB including grade B in History
• IB: 32 points including 16 at Higher Level with 6 in Higher Level History
