Sussex has a long tradition of innovative historical research in modern European history. This MA draws explicitly upon this expertise to offer a carefully constructed programme of courses from Spanish, German and French history.
MA students are attached to the Centre for Modern European Cultural History, which has strong connections with European institutions and organises conferences, seminars and other activities. You also benefit from strong departmental links to the Centre for German-Jewish Studies.
UK entrance requirements
A first- or upper second-class undergraduate honours degree in history or another humanities or social science subject.
Overseas entrance requirements
Sussex receives applications from all over the world and is therefore very experienced in assessing the qualifications offered by students from outside the UK.

English language requirements
IELTS 6.5, with not less than 6.5 in Writing and 6.0 in the other sections. Internet TOEFL with 90 overall including 24 in Speaking and 25 in Writing. For more information, refer to English language requirements.
