Course description
The programme embraces the study of medieval European civilization from around AD400 to 1500 in its artistic, historical, linguistic and literary aspects. Medieval specialists from a wide range of departments within the university co-operate to provide a choice of courses which cover a wide chronological and geographical range and which adopt a variety of different approaches to the life of the middle ages. The year 3 independent dissertation is a highpoint of the degree.
Career opportunities
Graduates find work in many different fields, some still involved with Medieval Studies, others in less specialised graduate careers for which an honours degree, rather than a specific subject, is desired. Employers value graduates for their breadth, ability to analyse, literacy and communication skills. Graduates can enter the media, law and accountancy, commerce, business and industry, the Civil Service, local government, teaching and numerous other areas.
