The programme is designed to educate students in process systems engineering with a special focus in chemical, energy or environmental engineering. Instruction is given through lectures, tutorials, labs and project work, normally integrated in operating research teams. During the 8 week industrial internship, students are trained in practical engineering problems. Instructions start in English, but will be continued in German after the first semester. An intensive language course is offered.

The course consists of 6 modules:

  1. Process Synthesis
  2. Process Simulation
  3. Process Control
  4. Process Optimisation
  5. Management
  6. Intercultural Competence

In each module students have to attend a compulsory part and complete the module from a list of optional subjects to reach the necessary ECTS-points.

The Master's course provides comprehensive competence in process and plant engineering, construction and management. Typical employers are international companies operating in chemical engineering, food industry, power plant engineering, environmental technology or building service.

The main effect of the course is to develop the ability of the students to understand complex processes as a system, to analyse them and to handle instruments to control and to optimise processes and solve problems. This will be complemented by a framework of intercultural competence and management skills.

Graduates have the ability to

  • be creative and have the acquisitive and intellectual skills to be able to work in all areas of their engineering field and cooperate with other disciplines
  • work in an international environment
  • gain and apply knowledge independently
  • gain insight into aspects of long-term development
  • gain insight into the structure and function of companies through economic, company and legal management
  • gain insight into ethical aspects of the engineering profession
